What is Essentrics?
Essentrics is a dynamic full-body workout that makes muscles stronger AND longer, while increasing the mobility of your joints. The programme combines stretching and strengthening in flowing movements — no weights, no jumping, and no poses to hold.
Where does it come from?
Essentrics was developed over 25 years ago by Miranda Esmonde-White, a Canadian former ballet dancer. She built the technique from ballet, gymnastics and physiotherapy around one central idea: the body gets stronger by lengthening muscles, not by training them short and stiff. The well-known PBS series Classical Stretch is based on Essentrics and is broadcast worldwide.
Who is it for?
For everyone — regardless of age or fitness level. Essentrics is practised by top athletes and Olympians, but just as much by people who want to move freely again after years behind a desk, or who suffer from stiffness or pain in their back, neck or shoulders.
What does a class look like?
A class lasts 45 to 60 minutes, is entirely standing, and you need no equipment. You work to music through flowing, circular movements that reach every muscle group. The focus is on control, breathing and suppleness — not on reps or intensity.

In February 2026 I began my training to become a certified Essentrics instructor. What started as a personal discovery — more flexibility, fewer aches — quickly became a passion I want to share with the people around me.
Right now I give trial classes in the Voorhout library. From September 2026 this will expand to yoga studios and gyms across the Bollenstreek.
